Creating Templates for Customized Email Marketing Campaigns - Tips & Tricks

http://www.interspire.com/emailmarketer/images/email_templates.jpgEmail marketing can be a great way to inform you readers and get them to take an action, but creating email marketing tactics can be a time consuming process, especially if you send multiple email campaigns in one month.

One way to alleviate some of the time spent creating email marketing campaigns is to create templates. This way, the bulk of your time will need to only be spent on creating enticing copy instead of designs.

  • Create categories:
If you send out email campaigns on a monthly or weekly basis, creating a template will be extremely beneficial. In order to create a template, you need to first take a look at your past campaigns and separate them into categories. If you send newsletters, make a newsletter category. If you send thank you or nice to meet you emails, separate them into categories. This will help make the template making process easier.

  • Design category templates:
After you have your categories set, design email templates for each category. Try to keep them generic, as you don't know what type of information you will always include. Create designated places for images. This way, you know that an image will always go in a certain place, and there will be no need to mess around with where to put the image later. Having a simple template can still allow you to customize each campaign so that it appears different. A templated design can simply mean knowing where to put the heading, subheads, links, contact information and images.

  • Test it out:
Before you send out an email marketing campaign on a new template, make sure to send a test to yourself first. This way, if there are any errors, you can see them first and fix them before sending to potential clients.
It is also a good idea to test your email campaigns on both Macs and PCs and on a variety of Internet providers and email providers. Sometimes when a template was created on a PC, it may look different on a Mac.

  • Use a template software:
If you're not a very good designer, or if you don't have a designer on staff, you can always use an email template software. Websites such as Constant Contact allow you to create email campaigns using designated templates. This saves you from the hassle of designing templates yourself, and you know everything will always remain consistent.

  • The benefits of email templates:
Having an email campaign template will save you a great amount of time, as you will not have to create a campaign from scratch whenever you want to send one out. It can also be a cost savings, as you will not have to pay a designer to create a new campaign every time.

Using templates allows allows for brand consistency and recognition. If all of your email campaigns contain the same look and feel, people will start recognizing these campaigns with your business, helping generate a great amount of brand recognition.

Whether you create templates on your own or get help from an outside company, template campaigns can still allow for customization and will help save you stress and time.
